Alfresco goes to the movies: Cannes report
As always, the movie crowd were out in force along the Croisette. I sat and watched as all the superstars wafted by – Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone and Matt Damon. I spotted a couple of Alfresco fans too - Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas.
But for me, the biggest thrill happened before I even left the airport. Goldie Hawn sat four rows ahead of me on my flight, which got me thinking about the screenplay I’ve been wanting to write. Ever since I spent some time living in Los Angeles and then went to film school in London, I’ve had an idea for a film featuring a quirky lady of a certain age who has lived life to the full! And whenever I’ve thought about the best person to play the protagonist, I’ve always felt that Goldie Hawn would be perfect. She looks as though she has a great sense of fun. And of course, her daughter Kate Hudson could play the protagonist as a young woman.
So, when we got off the plane and everyone was hanging about by the baggage carousel waiting for their luggage, I tried to be discreet and not to stare too hard when I noticed a familiar figure with a mane of golden hair standing beside me. All of a sudden, Goldie’s handbag slipped open and the entire contents landed at my feet. Now, my philosophy has always been to work hard and never give up in order to achieve my goals. I don’t follow the example of some of my Californian friends and ‘Ask the universe’. But maybe in Goldie’s case, I had kind of put the idea out there. So I seized the moment and asked Goldie if she would be interested in playing the part in my future film. She was totally sweet and wished me luck, but I don’t get the impression I should hold out too much hope. Perhaps I should have offered Goldie some Alfresco instead! She could join the long list of movie stars who won’t leave home without it. Sarah-Lou, Alfresco CEO
