#AlfrescoLives ... London at Christmas!
London is getting ready for the festive season, which meant that the Alfresco team were able to go and see the beautiful lights in town and the special Christmas displays at the most famous shops in London.
If you are living in London and looking for something new to do, or are visiting us over the next few weeks, here are our top recommendations on what to do to make the most of the festive beauty. Here are some of Alfresco’s holiday traditions…
Skating at Somerset House
The courtyard of Somerset House is transformed into a gorgeous ice rink, which is open in the daytime and after dark as well. It’s worth booking in advance, as the queues can get long! Head over the road to the Delaunay afterwards for a well-deserved hot chocolate.
Visit the Christmas Floor at Liberty
One of the prettiest stores in London, at Liberty you’ll find all sorts of traditional Christmas presents, including the best crackers in London and some lovely wreathes too.
Go to the ballet
Nothing makes me feel more ready for the holidays than seeing a ballet! There are hundreds of shows to choose from in London, but this winter I’m particularly looking forward to seeing The Nutcracker at the magnificent Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Pantomime it up!
Reconnect with your inner child at this year’s production of Peter Pan at the National Theatre. The play has had fantastic reviews, and looks like a wonderfully original interpretation of the classic story about the boy who never grew up (we can identify with that!). Children optional….
Take in an exhibition
There are some fantastic exhibitions in London’s museums. As a child of the ‘60’s myself I can’t wait to go to the V&A’s exhibition ‘You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970. It promises to examine the last few years of the swinging sixties and their cultural impact. Maybe I’ll break out some of my hippy clothes for the occasion…
